Austin Singer Songwriter Bill Godfrey allows himself to go under the influence on his haunting new EP. “Hypnotized” is a five track exploration of how the mind seeks influence leading to all manner of trouble. Vocally, Godfrey exude soul, and storytelling acumen, likening him to artist, ranging from Jose Gonzalez and Cautious Clay to Jeff Buckley and Sufjan Stevens with his untethered, emotionally charged delivery.
Bill Godfrey’s unique signature sound couples Indie Pop and Folk with Electronica, Soul, and Indie Rock. However, his approach is born from classic inspiration that began at a young age. “Growing up in Texas, the Kerrville Folk Festival was a big part of my early exposure to playing and singing. It’s a three week long camp out in which friends bring instruments and play music together. Only acoustic instruments are allowed. I learned a lot of songs and was exposed to artist like Townes Van Zandt, Rodney Crowell, Guy Clark, Blaze Foley, James Taylor, Carole King, and John Prine”.
“Hypnotized is a coming of age, exploration of a young mind that seeks identity and love, but struggles to break free from outside influence and control. Each track explores a means of influence over the mind, by way of fear, grief, codependence, substances, dogma, or even malice”.
